The woods are busy tonight...
Chock full of disguised virgins, hopeful youths and a myriad of gods meddling in human lives, the woodland is suddenly a rather wild place to spend an evening, even before Cupid’s arrows start flying around the nymphs in the forest.

This is not just your garden variety girl-dressed-as-boy meets girl-dressed-as-boy pursued by confused and amorous nymphs, but a cunning, tender and devilishly funny insight into the expectations of gender and the idea that love can overthrow all!
Originally written by John Lyly for a company of boys, Gallathea was first performed in 1588 for Queen Elizabeth I. Since then, it has gathered dust in the archives of academic institutes. Dug up during research by Release the Hounds members Ellan and Sarah, the time is now ripe to give this lively, bittersweet, unique and surprisingly subversive play a proper airing....
Following a series of exploratory workshops, RTH presented extracts from their forthcoming production of Gallathea at a gala event on the 8th of April 2009 at the Bridewell Theatre in London. A full-length production is to follow in the new year.
